The Woodlands School was founded in 1969, and it is considered one of the better public high schools in the Greater Toronto Area. It’s a member of the Peel District School Board.
Specialized Courses
The Woodlands School offers a wide assortment of academic courses for students.
SHSM
The Specialist High Skills Major program provides grade 11 and 12 students the ability to focus on a specific career path while they earn their high school diploma.
Two Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs are offered at the Woodlands School, one for Transportation, and one for Health and Wellness.
Dual Credit
The Dual Credit Program provides grade 11 and 12 students with an opportunity to earn both college and non-compulsory high school credits at the same time.
College credits earned may be applied to programs at various colleges such as Centennial, George Brown, Humber, Seneca and Sheridan.
EHS
Explore High Skills (EHS) is a Peel District School Board pathway program for grade 9 and 10 students.
It serves as a precursor to the SHSM program, and gives younger students the opportunity to focus their learning on a specific area of interest that can lead to a later career.
ESL
Woodlands SS accurately reflects the multicultural heritage of Mississauga, in that it plays host to many students from around the world, and it offers an extensive English as a Second Language (ESL) curriculum.
Enhanced Learning Program
The Woodlands Enhanced Learning Program is a Special Education Program open to all students in Mississauga who have been recognized as being intellectually gifted.
The Woodlands Enhanced Learning Program consists of self-contained classes for Gifted students from Grades 9 -12, that cover the regular Ontario Academic Curriculum and then extend to cover additional material in greater depth.
PALS
There is also a Peer Assisted Learning (PALS) program that is available.
OYAP
The Woodlands School also offers an Ontario Youth Apprentice Program (OYAP) for apprenticeship in various trades-related industries.

School and Nearby Amenities
For recreation, The Woodlands Secondary School has a large gymnasium, and a full assortment of athletic facilities, including two interesting additions – one already in existence, and one on its way.
Pickleball Courts
The school recently added four outdoor concrete pickleball courts. These are dedicated courts with permanent lines and nets.
The courts are part of a joint development project between the school board and the city, and are free for the public to use.
Track and Field Facility
As part of a second joint project with the city, The Woodlands Secondary School is expected to soon get a new track and field facility that will include a multi-purpose artificial turf field for soccer, field hockey, football, rugby and lacrosse. The project will include lighting and an eight-lane track.
Plans for this latest addition were approved in October 2024.
In addition to the athletic offerings, Woodlands SS is located near to public transit and shopping, and is relatively close to the Mississauga City Centre and the Square One area.
