Port Credit Memorial Park Mississauga

Port Credit Memorial Park is a public park in Mississauga, Ontario. It is located on the east side of the Port Credit Harbour where the Credit River flows into Lake Ontario. This park is a favourite spot for families, and is the site of many local festivals and events.

Port Credit Memorial Park was originally marshland that was part of a First Nations settlement. This was the central hub of the original trading post that was eventually named Port Credit. Eventually the area was purchased from the First Nations peoples, and was gradually developed.

Today, it’s a great location where visitors can take advantage of spectacular views of the Credit River, the marina, and Lake Ontario.

The park is approximately 16.4 acres, and it features a number of paved walking trails that encircle an open green area.

Here you will find a fairly extensive children’s playground, a skateboard park, an outdoor basketball court, a pavilion, and plenty of picnic spots.

Port Credit Arena

On the northeast corner of the park is the Port Credit Arena. This is a large facility that was opened in 1959. The arena provides ice skating facilities for hockey, figure skating, and family skating. It’s the oldest surviving arena in Mississauga.

Port Credit Arena is home to both the Port Credit Hockey Association and the Port Credit Figure Skating Club.

Mississauga Music Walk of Fame

Port Credit Memorial Park is also the site of the Mississauga Music Walk of Fame.

Here you will find a series of over 30 granite plaques embedded in the walkway, that give tribute to the many well known musicians who have a connection to Mississauga.

You will see plaques for everyone from Oscar Peterson to Jeff Healey, from Denny Doherty to Liberty Silver. It’s fun to walk along the path and discover the surprising number of international celebrities who have ties to Mississauga.

Several notable yearly festivals are held at or near the park:

  • Southside Shuffle Blues and Jazz Festival
  • Mississauga Dragon Boat Festival
  • Paint the Town Red Canada Day Festival (with fireworks)
  • Mississauga Busker Fest
  • Mississauga Waterfront Festival
  • Lights and Ice Winterfest

Despite all the festival activity, and despite being right within the central commercial area of Port Credit, Port Credit Memorial Park still manages to provide a good escape from the pressures of city life.

Port Credit Memorial is one of the Mississauga parks that is very popular on the weekends. This is when you will find many families from all over the city enjoying the facilities.

Online reviews of the park are very positive, currently ranking 4.6 out of 5 on Google, with thousands of reviews posted..

Where is Port Credit Memorial Park?

As shown in the map above, Port Credit Memorial Park is located in the heart of Port Credit. It’s about a half hour drive from downtown Toronto.

The correct municipal address for Port Credit Memorial Park is 32 Stavebank Road North, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada L5G 2T5. The official entrance to the park is at its eastern edge, running off of Stavebank Rd.

This waterfront park is located directly in the heart of the central commercial strip of Port Credit, and it occupies a space roughly between Stavebank Road and the Credit River.

Directly to the west of the park is the massive Brightwater development, currently under construction. When that master-planned community welcomes its first residents, it will no doubt add to the park’s visitor numbers.

The nearest main intersection is Lakeshore Road W. and Mississauga Road South.

The park is easily reachable by car, and by public transit. There are plenty of buses that run along Lakeshore Road W., and the Port Credit GO station is about a 15 minute walk away.

The new Hurontario LRT, when it opens in 2024, will provide additional connections to the Square One area, as well as continuing service northwards to Brampton.

There are paved winding walking paths that run throughout the park. You will see a lot of people walking and roller blading here, and the walking path also serves as a biking trail.

The trail passes by the childrens’ playground area, along the Credit River, and through a passageway under Lakeshore Road that intersects with Ontario’s extensive Waterfront Trail.
