Features and Highlights

Celebration Square Mississauga has several components.

Fountain

The upper part of the square features a large fountain and wading pool. The fountain is located directly in front of the Mississauga Civic Centre, and is surrounded by seating areas. During the summer months, the fountain also serves as a splash pad, and is a popular spot for children to cool off and play.

Ice Skating Rink

During winter, the fountain transforms into an outdoor ice skating rink that is popular with people of all ages and skill levels. The rink is well lit in the evenings.

The skating rink usually opens in early December, and is open till mid-March. There is no cost for skating here, although you can also rent skates and other equipment for a small fee.

Just a word of warning: the Celebration Square Ice Skating Rink is extremely popular, and it can get crowded when the weather is good.

Amphitheatre

Also located on the upper level, there is a 300-seat terraced outdoor amphitheatre with fully equipped sound and lighting. The amphitheatre is used for everything from small outdoor concerts to open mic events.

Art Gallery of Mississauga

The Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) is a public, not-for-profit art gallery that is located in the Civic Centre building. Entrance can be found at the upper level of Celebration Square. The Gallery is open six days per week (closed Mondays) and offers free admission and guided exhibition tours in addition to regular art social events, workshops for adult learners, and youth programs for schools, universities and community groups.

The gallery holds approximately 18 exhibitions a year.

Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Garden

The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Garden is a small garden on the west upper level of Celebration Square. It has gravel walking paths, a few benches, shade trees, shrubs and flowers. You can access the garden from Living Arts Drive and from Celebration Square. It’s not really big enough to be a park, but it’s a charming spot to sit and enjoy the summer weather. In the summer, lots of city workers go here for their lunch breaks.

From the upper level of the square, we can now walk down several steps, or go down a gentle ramp, to the lower area of the square.

Main Stage

The centre of the square is a large open field with artificial turf. It’s a pretty large spot, almost the size of a soccer field.

This large open green field faces onto a main stage that backs onto Burnhamthorpe Road W. This is the hub for the many outdoor live music concerts that are held during the summer months.

Celebration Square’s main stage features professional lighting, audio and video systems as well as technical staff to operate them. The stage itself is 40ft by 40ft, and the roof over the stage reaches 50ft in height.

There are large (16ft by 28ft each) high definition digital screens on either side of the stage.

These are utilized for larger events, and are used to show live stage performances, provide information (event schedules or maps), introduce artists, recognize sponsors and show films, movies or animations.
