J.C. Saddington Park Mississauga
J.C. Saddington Park is a public park in the Port Credit area of Mississauga, Ontario. It is located on the west side of the Port Credit Harbour where the Credit River flows into Lake Ontario. It’s a favourite spot for families, nature lovers, and people who love to fish.

J.C. Saddington is largely manmade. It was built on landfill that was deposited into Lake Ontario between 1949 and 1970, in part to prevent erosion of the shoreline. The park was officially opened in 1972.
Its location is such that visitors can take advantage of spectacular views of the Port Credit harbour, Lake Ontario, and even the distant Toronto skyline.
The park features a number of waterfront walking trails that encircle an open green area that includes a children’s playground, a pond, a small amphitheatre, and plenty of picnic and BBQ spots. One thing to note: there are no provisions for team sports such as soccer at this park.
What makes this public space special is that it faces directly onto both the Credit River, and Lake Ontario.

Who was J.C. Saddington?
James Cyril (Cy) Saddington became the first mayor of Port Credit when it incorporated as a town in 1961, and held that position until 1965. He became mayor again in 1970, and presided over the town until 1974, when Port Credit was amalgamated into the City of Mississauga.
In effect, Cy Saddington was Port Credit’s first and last mayor.
He was a popular mayor, and was instrumental in the construction of the Port Credit Arena, and the creation of the park that is the subject of this article.
Where is J.C. Saddington Park?
As shown in the map above, J.C. Saddington Park is located in the heart of Port Credit. It’s about a half hour drive from downtown Toronto.
Municipal address for J.C. Saddington Park is 53 Lake Street, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada L5H 1A3. The official entrance to the park is at its eastern edge, running off of Front St. S.
This waterfront park is located directly to the west of the central commercial strip of Port Credit, and it occupies a space roughly between Mississauga Road S. and the Credit River.
Directly to the west of the park is the massive Brightwater development, currently under construction. When that master-planned community welcomes its first residents, it will no doubt add to the park’s visitor numbers.
The nearest main intersection is Lakeshore Road W. and Mississauga Road South.
The park is easily reachable by car, and by public transit. There are plenty of buses that run along Lakeshore Road W., and the Port Credit GO station is about a 15 minute walk away.
The new Hurontario LRT, when it opens in 2024, will provide additional connections to the Square One area, as well as continuing service northwards to Brampton.

Inside the Park
The park is one of about 500 parks administered by the City of Mississauga. It is open year round, although the best times to visit are definitely in the spring, summer, and fall.
As with all parks in Mississauga, there is no fee for admission.
Walking Paths
There are paved winding walking paths that run throughout the park. You will see a lot of people walking and roller blading here, and the walking path also serves as a biking trail. The trail passes by the childrens’ playground area, and intersects with Ontario’s extensive Waterfront Trail.
The Waterfront Trail is a province-wide initiative that connects over 150 communities and runs for 3600 kilometers along several Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence river.
Playgrounds, Picnic Areas, and Places to Fish
In addition to the walking paths, J.C. Saddington Park has a large amount of open spaces that are perfect for throwing a frisbee, or having a picnic. This is a family-oriented park.
You will also find a good-sized pond here that has a small waterfall. It’s home to many ducks and geese.
Interestingly, there are a lot of people who come to the park to try their hand at fishing. The waters where the Credit River flows into Lake Ontario have plenty of fish in them, and you will see local people fishing here in all kinds of weather.

There are two large free parking lots on the western edge of the park, by Mississauga Road South. There is also limited parking space along many of the nearby residential streets on the eastern side of the park.

JC Saddington is pet-friendly! Dogs on a leash are permitted in the park.
