The Hazel McCallion LRT (formerly the Hurontario LRT) is a light rail line under construction in the cities of Mississauga and Brampton, Ontario, Canada. The line will run along Hurontario Street from Mississauga’s Port Credit GO Station north to Steeles Avenue in Brampton.
Areas served will include Port Credit, Mineola, Cooksville, Fairview, Mississauga City Centre, Hurontario, and south Brampton.
The LRT will run 18 kilometers, and will have 19 stops. There is currently a proposal to add additional stops in a loop that will run around the Mississauga City Centre neighbourhood surrounding Square One Shopping Centre.
Major internodal connections with MiWay bus service, GO Transit, Via Rail, and ZUM Transit will be available at the Port Credit GO Station, the Cooksville GO Station, and the Mississauga City Centre Transit Terminal.
The line is being built and operated as a public-private partnership by Mobilinx, a consortium of private European and Japanese companies, with provincial transit agency Metrolinx retaining ownership of the line.
The cities of Mississauga and Brampton determined that rapid transit along Hurontario is required due to the chronic overcrowding of Mississauga’s busiest bus routes, which carry more than 25,000 passengers a day, combined with the numerous high-density development proposals along the corridor and the high growth in both cities.
Construction began in 2020 and the line is projected to enter service in late 2025, or early 2026.
Rolling stock will be supplied by Alstom SA.
