Erindale is a historic neighbourhood in the central part of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
Erindale is named in honour of the birthplace of the first rector of the village, Reverend James Magrath, who was from Erin, Ireland.
The area was first settled in the early 1800’s, and grew along what today is Dundas Street West. Originally, the first settlements in the area were located near the east bank of the Credit River valley.
The original road that served the area became a military road and was eventually named Dundas Street after the British Secretary-at-War, Henry Dundas.
Today, Erindale is a large, primarily residential area, and is the location of several elementary schools, as well as two public high schools, Erindale Secondary School, and The Woodlands School, and one Catholic (Separate) high school St. Martin Secondary School.
There is also a large branch campus of the University of Toronto, known as University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM), which is located here.
There are several points of interest in Erindale, including Erindale Park, which is the largest park in Mississauga, as well as the Sheridan Centre Mall, which is a legacy shopping mall that was established in 1969.
Erindale is also the site of the Erindale GO Station, one of the principal railway stations in Mississauga.
It is also the location for Heritage Mississauga (Mississauga Heritage Foundation).
