Clarkson

Clarkson, also called Clarkson Village, is a neighbourhood in the city of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, situated in the southwest corner of the city, along the shore of Lake Ontario.

It is bordered by Lake Ontario to the south, Oakville to the west, Erindale and Erin Mills to the north, and Lorne Park to the east.

Clarkson has a long history. It was originally a rural village within Toronto Township. It was settled as early as 1807.

Over time the community became known as “Clarkson’s Corners” after early settler Warren Clarkson, who had opened a general store and post office on his property.

In 1850, the road which bordered Warren Clarkson’s property was officially recognized as Clarkson Road.

In 1855, the Great Western Railway began service to the area. A train station was on part of Warren Clarkson’s property and given the name of “Clarkson’s”. The name of the station, and through it the surrounding area, was later shortened to “Clarkson”.

Although the community never incorporated as an independent village, Clarkson was once known as the “Strawberry Capital of Ontario”.

Clarkson became part of the Town of Mississauga in 1968.

Today, Clarkson is an established area of Mississauga. It is popular with commuters, as it has easy access to the QEW Highway. In addition, Clarkson has a stop on the GO Transit Lakeshore rail line, known as the Clarkson GO Station.

Clarkson is one of the most sought after neighbourhoods in Mississauga.
