Iroquois Ridge HS was founded in 1994, and it is considered one of the top public high schools in Canada.

Specialized Courses

Advanced Placement

IRHS is also a participnt in the Advanced Placement Program (AP), which offers students the opportunity to take advanced university-level courses while still in high school, earning them credits and easier admission to colleges and universities across North America.

Gifted Program

The Gifted Program is a Halton Region initiative that gives gifted students in both elementary and high school the opportunity to benefit from more challenging, self-paced learning.

Students go deeper into subjects, belong to a peer group of like-minded learners, and receive teaching tailored by educators trained in gifted education.

Other high schools in Halton Region that offer the Gifted Program include Abbey Park, Garth Webb,  and Oakville Trafalgar high schools in Oakville, Nelson and MM Robinson high schools in Burlington, and Milton District high school in Milton.

Students must apply and be accepted to participate in the Gifted Program.

Dual Credits

Dual Credits are a way for Grade 11 and 12 students to earn credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) while at the same time sampling college or apprenticeship industry-specific courses.

Dual Credits count towards both the OSSD and a postsecondary certificate, diploma, or degree, or an apprenticeship certification.

French Language

The school offers a wide assortment of academic courses, including a full French Immersion program.

SHSM

Other specialty offerings include Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) programs in Business and Arts & Culture.

OYAP

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) provides practical learning and hands-on training in more than 140 skilled trades.

OYAP is a School to Work program that helps students to explore and work in apprenticeship occupations starting in Grade 10, 11 or Grade 12.

Students have an opportunity to become registered apprentices and work towards becoming certified journeypersons in a skilled trade while completing their secondary school diplomas.

IRHS also has a large focus on the Arts, including Choral Music, Craft Design, Drama, Instrumental Music, Photography, and Visual Arts.

Facilities

IRHS offers modern and spacious classrooms and work spaces for students. There is an architecturally noted spacious walkway and atrium between two buildings that features full size planted trees, which has been nicknamed “The Street”. The school also features numerous art rooms, music rooms, an auto workshop, a fitness centre, athletic fields and computer study areas.

Nearby Amenities

For recreation, the school has a large gymnasium, a soccer/football field surrounded by a 400m track with a long jump pit, and a fitness centre.

Across from the school is the Iroquois Ridge Community Centre, which houses a 25m swimming pool and a branch of the Oakville Public Library.

There are also two baseball diamonds behind the school that are maintained by the Town of Oakville. A field hockey/soccer field and a tennis court are also located near to the school and which are also maintained by the Town of Oakville.

The school is also the site of a government-licensed child care centre for children aged 4 months to 4 years. Munns Child Care Centre is run as a non-profit, and offers a full daycare facility.

Iroquois Ridge High School has excellent rankings in the Fraser Institute grading system. It offers a wide range of academic and specialty courses. It offers an excellent athletics culture, and plenty of extracurricular activities to enrich student lives. The school is highly recommended.
