Mississauga City Centre is the downtown of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The downtown district is located near the intersection of Hurontario St and Burnhamthorpe Rd, and is largely centred around Square One Shopping Centre.
Boundaries for the district are Hurontario St. to the east, Mavis Road to the west, the 403 highway to the north, and roughly Fairview Rd. to the south.
The Mississauga City Centre area is home to dozens of high rise condos, as well as a number of significant city structures and entertainment venues. Many of the more prominent tourist attractions in Mississauga are here.
The Mississauga Civic Centre, also called Mississauga City Hall, is located here. In addition to the municipal offices, there is also a large space called Celebration Square in front of the building. Many outdoor concerts and cultural events are held here during the warmer months, and the Celebration Square Skating Rink provides free public ice skating during the winter.
Mississauga’s largest public library, the Hazel McCallion Central Library, is also located in the Mississauga City Centre area.
The city’s Central YMCA is located at 325 Burnhamthorpe West, across the street from the Central Library.
The Mississauga Living Arts Centre, a performing arts venue, is nearby. It opened in 1997.
The Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) is a major art gallery that is located in the Civic Centre.
A satellite campus of Sheridan College, the Hazel McCallion Campus, is also located in the Mississauga City Centre, located at 4180 Duke of York Boulevard.
Public transit
Mississauga City Centre is well-served by MiWay and GO Transit. The Mississauga City Centre Transit Terminal is the city’s main transit terminal and hosts 21 MiWay bus routes and one Brampton Transit–operated bus rapid transit (named Züm) route.
GO Transit buses serve the nearby Square One Bus Terminal, and The Hazel McCallion LRT (Hurontario LRT) will have a stop at the terminal when it opens in late 2024 or early 2025.
Roads
Two key streets in the city centre are Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Road. There are also other secondary arterials such as Rathburn Road, Confederation Parkway, and City Centre Drive.
Provincial Highway 403 provides access to Toronto and Pearson International Airport to the east, and west to Hamilton and beyond. There are interchanges that access the highway at Hurontario St and Mavis Rd.
Mississauga City Centre is the heart of the city, and is one of the most densely populated neighbourhoods in Mississauga.
