M. M. Robinson High School (MMRHS) campus was founded in 1963, and is located in the Mountainside neighbourhood of north Burlington. This school is noted for its high level of academic achievement, its robust music and drama programs, as well as its notable presence in athletics.

M. M. Robinson High School is well regarded, and it offers a wide assortment of courses and programs for students.

Pool Partnership

The school entered into a partnership with the City of Burlington to provide a location for the Angela Coughlan Pool, a community operated swimming pool adjacent to the high school.

Students are able to access the pool for swim classes and recreational swimming.

Who was M. M. Robinson?

Melville Marks (Bobby) Robinson (1888-1974) was a Canadian sports journalist, executive, and most notably, was the founder of the British Empire Games, which eventually became the Commonwealth Games.

Robinson was a visionary who is credited with a number of innovations that we take for granted today. Innovations such as the athletes’ village concept and the awards podium. He also managed Canada’s Olympic and Empire Games track teams until 1938.

Notable Achievements

  • Founder of the Commonwealth Games: Robinson conceived the idea for the games, which first took place in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1930. 
  • Pioneer of Sports Facilities: He developed the concept of the athletes’ village, which houses competing athletes. He also created the awards podium, a standard feature in major sporting events today. 
  • Financial and Logistical Innovator: Robinson was instrumental in securing funding and travel subsidies for many participating nations, ensuring that athletes could compete in the inaugural games. 
  • Journalist and Executive: Robinson had a long career as a sports journalist and executive, becoming sports editor and City Editor for The Hamilton Spectator newspaper.

Gifted Program

The Gifted Program is a Halton Region initiative that gives gifted students in both elementary and high school the opportunity to benefit from more challenging, self-paced learning.

Students go deeper into subjects, belong to a peer group of like-minded learners, and receive teaching tailored by educators trained in gifted education.

Other high schools in Halton Region that offer the Gifted Program include Abbey ParkGarth Webb, Iroquois Ridge, and Oakville Trafalgar high schools in Oakville, Nelson high school in Burlington, and Milton District high school in Milton.

Students must apply and be accepted to participate in the Gifted Program.

SHSM

Robinson High School offers 5 different Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs, including Arts & Culture, Construction, Health & Wellness, Manufacturing, and Transportation.

Dual Credits

The school participates in the Dual Credits program. Students are able to get college level credits for courses taken during grades 11 and 12.

French Language

Robinson High School offers a French Immersion curriculum, as well as basic Core French classes for students in grades 9-12. 

ESL

Robinson HS provides extensive English as a Second Language (ESL) programs led by teachers with substantial experience working with students in ESL.

OYAP

The school is also a participant in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) for skilled trades.
