Lakefront Promenade

Lakefront Promenade is a waterfront park located in Mississauga, Ontario. It’s a massive park and marina on the north shore of Lake Ontario, and comes complete with its own beach.

This is a sprawling greenspace that is comprised of several interconnected smaller parks.

  • Lakefront Promenade Park
  • Lakefront Marina
  • Lakeview Park
  • AE Crookes Park
  • Douglas Kennedy Park
  • RK McMillan Park

Visitors can enjoy having a picnic or BBQ, birdwatching, or relaxing on a sandy beach that is perfect for swimming or sunbathing.

If you are an outdoor enthusiast in the Greater Toronto Area, with its beautiful natural setting, Lakefront Promenade is a great spot to unwind.

Altogether there are three lakefront parks with beaches in Mississauga: Lakefront Promenade Park, Jack Darling Park, and Richard’s Memorial Park.

Lakefront Promenade at 104 acres is by far the largest of the three. It’s probably the least known of Mississauga’s major parks, because of its almost hidden location, but it has unique charms.

Lakefront Promenade Park has multiple children’s playgrounds, picnic and BBQ areas, and sports facilities including beach volleyball, a soccer field, and a baseball diamond.

The biggest attraction, however, is its vast marina. More on that in a minute.

At this park you will find multiple attractions:

  • children’s playgrounds with splash pads
  • sandy beach
  • beach volleyball facility
  • baseball diamond
  • lots of open green spaces
  • picnic and BBQ areas
  • benches and lookout points with views of downtown Toronto
  • beautiful views of the marina

Despite being in an industrial area that is midway between the busy commercial nodes of Port Credit and Long Branch Toronto, Lakefront Promenade provides a good escape from the pressures of city life.

Where is Lakefront Promenade?

As shown in the map above, Lakefront Promenade is located at the southeastern edge of Mississauga, in a district known as Lakeview. It’s about a half hour drive from downtown Toronto.

Lakefront Promenade Park, with its several component smaller parks, has several municipal addresses, including 115, 125, 135, and 800 Lakefront Promenade, Mississauga, Ontario. The nearest main intersection is Lakeshore Road E. and Cawthra Road.

The park is tucked away from view, and you can easily miss the entrance. Turning south onto Lakefront Promenade off of Lakeshore Road E, you are greeted by an industrial area of factories. At first there is no parkland to be seen.

On the left side of the road you will see the beginnings of construction of an enormous new multi-year residential development known as Lakeview Village. Right now the site is a beehive of activity on what will eventually be home to 20,000 people.

The road curves to the southwest, and soon the park, or actually a series of smaller parks, becomes visible. There are areas for sports, picnics, BBQ, and especially, there is a large marina.

The park is easily reachable by car, and by public transit. There are plenty of buses that run along Lakeshore Road E., with routes extending from both the Port Credit GO station in Mississauga, and the Long Branch GO station in Toronto. While the bus service has stops near the Lakeshore Road E. intersection, the walk in to the park area itself is about 10 minutes.

Inside the Park

The park is one of about 500 parks administered by the City of Mississauga. It is open year round, although the best times to visit are definitely in the spring, summer, and fall.

As with all parks in Mississauga, there is no fee for admission.

Marina

The Marina

Lakefront Promenade has an impressive marina that is actually two marinas. One section is a public marina, and the other is a private marina belonging to the Port Credit Yacht Club (PCYC). The PCYC is a private club with a long history. It was originally established in 1936 at a location near the mouth of the Credit River. It moved its headquarters from there to Lakefront Promenade in 1991.

The park is also the location of the Mississauga Sailing Club, the Peel Regional Police Marine Unit, and the Mississauga Majors Baseball Association.

Walking Paths

There are several winding walking and biking paths that run through the park, including sections that are part of the province-wide Waterfront Trail.

Playgrounds, Picnic and BBQ Areas

Lake Ontario

Mississauga Lakefront Promenade Park has a great location right on Lake Ontario. The beach and shoreline have several places where you can launch your kayak, canoe, windsurfing board, or paddle board. There are also areas where you can launch your own boat, at no cost.

The views from the lakeside can be amazing, with direct line of sight to both Port Credit and downtown Toronto.

Plan Your Visit

The park is open daily from 7:00am to 11:00pm (or until dusk in winter).

Free Parking

There are six separate free parking lots as you proceed through the park. Although it can get busy, there is enough parking that on most days you shouldn’t have a problem finding a spot. Parking at the Port Credit Yacht Club, which is a private club, is gated.

Why We Need Parks

We often take parks such as this one for granted in large cities like Mississauga, but they play an important role in our lives.

Recreational areas such as parks provide a much-needed escape from the stress of urban life.

Parks in urban areas present opportunities for both physical activity and relaxation, and they promote community engagement and social interaction.

Public spaces such as Lakefront Promenade provide visitors with an important connection to nature, as well as a decent array of recreational features.

Conclusion

Lakefront Promenade is one of the best waterfront parks in Mississauga. It features a small beach, and is one of the top spots for picnics and BBQ. This park really is a hidden gem, tucked away from view.

Although it can be characterized as a family-oriented park, you will find a nice range of facilities here for people of all ages, including lookout points and the scenic vistas from the beach. Facilities for boating are excellent.

Parks such as this one are important, as they not only help Mississaugans to maintain good health but also provide a much-needed escape from our busy 21st century urban environment.

Lakefront Promenade, with its excellent Lakeview location, its impressive marina, its amazing views, and good array of attractions including walking paths, picnic and playground facilities, is one of the lesser known but excellent waterfront parks in Mississauga.

It’s a great find, and is a beloved destination for locals in the know.

We would definitely include it in our list of best Mississauga parks
