There are approximately 190 students registered at this unique facility, comprised of 100 in elementary school, and 90 in secondary school. Services are provided for both dormitory and day students.

ECD is not part of the Halton District School Board, but is administered directly by the Province of Ontario. It is one of only three such schools for the hearing-impaired in Ontario, the other two being the Robarts School for the Deaf in London, Ontario, and the Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf in Belleville, Ontario.

Here at the Milton campus, and somewhat confusingly, there is also an unrelated Gary Allen High School located at the north end of the facility. It provides academic courses for non-hearing impaired adult learners who want to complete their high school diploma.

Gary Allen High School, of which there are several locations in Halton Region, is part of the Continuing Education Department of the Halton District School Board.

E.C. Drury School for the Deaf (ECD) was originally founded in 1963, and is noted for its high degree of specialization in academic offerings.
