Tridel Corporation is one of the oldest and largest real estate developers in Canada. It is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, and has a history that goes back to 1934.

The Tridel Group of Companies is extremely active in the condo development industry, with literally dozens of projects currently underway, either under construction or planned. Tridel has built over 90,000 homes over its long existence. Its company slogan is “built for life”.

Origins
The company that became Tridel was founded by a stonemason named Jack DelZotto from Friuli, Italy, who moved to Canada in 1927. Jack DelZotto originally worked in the nickel mines near Sudbury, in northern Ontario.
DelZotto eventually moved to Toronto, and built his own home near Bloor St. & Dufferin St. He then raised enough capital to build two more homes, and developed a thriving residential construction business by 1934.
Three Brothers
By the 1950’s, Tridel had been formed. It was headed by Jack’s three sons, Angelo, Elvio, and Leo. The company was named Tridel for “the Three (tri) DelZottos”.
Tridel expanded rapidly, and became involved in the development of subdivisions and small apartment buildings.
In 1961, the company built its first highrise apartment complex which featured twin towers with 260 suites each and a recreational centre that included a swimming pool, fountains and fully landscaped grounds. This complex was the forerunner of today’s luxury condominium lifestyle, which is the hallmark of the Tridel building philosophy.
Tridel played a central role in Toronto’s skyscraper boom in the 1970s. The DelZotto brothers incorporated Tridel Enterprises Inc. in 1981, and it went public in 1986.
When the big Canadian real estate bust happened in 1989, Tridel was affected, but they managed to restructure and survive. The public company TDZ Holdings Inc. was eventually dissolved in October 2013. Today, the Tridel Group of Companies is privately held. In 2024 they are a powerhouse on the Toronto real estate scene.
Innovation and Green Initiatives
Tridel has a strong reputation for building green. They have won the Green Builder Of The Year award by the Building Industry Land Development Association (BILD) 13 times.
They are noted for producing thoughtful designs that conserve more energy, water and resources than standard building code compliant buildings.

Tridel Projects in the Greater Toronto Area
Over the years, Tridel Corp has completed hundreds of highrise and other buildings in the Greater Toronto Area.
At the time that I am writing this article in early 2024, they show 54 recent projects that include 33 complete, 8 under construction, and 13 in preconstruction.
Four of the most striking are Aqualina, Aquabella, Aquavista, and Aqualuna, which are luxury waterfront condos currently being developed jointly with Hines Corp.
Another large project that is just finishing up in 2024 are the residential towers of The Well. This a massive office, retail, and residential project that involves several developers, and has already created a transformation to the urban experience along Front St. W. in downtown Toronto.
Condos in Mississauga
Tridel has a long list of completed condos in Mississauga. Two of the earliest projects in the Mississauga City Centre were the Towne condos at 3605 Kariya Drive, and the Town 2 condos at 55 Elm Drive W.
In Cooksville, Tridel built 115 Hillcrest Ave, 135 Hillcrest Ave, 145 Hillcrest Ave, and 155 Hillcrest Ave.
Back to Square One City Centre, the company then proceeded with the twin Ovation Towers at 3880 Duke of York Blvd and 3888 Duke of York Blvd, as well as Grand Ovation condos at 310 Burnhamthorpe Rd. W, and Ultra Ovation condos at 330 Burnhamthorpe Rd. W.
In the Hurontario district, Tridel has completed several projects. One is the Residences of Strathaven at 55 Strathaven Dr.
Other projects include the Skymark West condos at 25 Kingsbridge Garden Circle, and 35 Kingsbridge Garden Circle, as well as the Mansion condo at 55 Kingsbridge Garden Circle.
Preconstruction in Mississauga
Today, Tridel Corporation is currently actively involved in a massive new master-planned community in the Lakeview area of southeast Mississauga known as Lakeview Village. This is a multi-year, multi-tower project being developed by Tridel as well as by several other companies including Branthaven Homes and Greenpark Homes.
It is expected to eventually have over 8,000 residences that will house over 20,000 people.
Tridel is currently marketing a preconstruction condo within Lakeview Village that will be known as Harbourwalk . It will feature dramatic architecture, and will be one of the focal points of the entire development.
Lakeview Village will also feature a 1 kilometre long man-made pier extending out into Lake Ontario.
Conclusion
Tridel Corporation is one of the top developers in Canada. They have a solid reputation for high-quality buildings that support all the lifestyle advantages that condo living provides. Moreover, they have demonstrated both a real commitment to Green initiatives, and a willingness to build properties that have superior architecture.
