Is St. Martin Secondary School a Good School?

St. Martin Catholic Secondary School is a reasonably well rated separate high school situated in the Erindale area of Mississauga. It is the oldest high school in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. It offers schooling for grades 9-12.

There are currently approximately 1088 students registered at this legacy facility. This Catholic secondary school serves a large catchment area that includes most of Erindale and Cooksville in the heart of Mississauga.

As with most Catholic high schools, students here are required to wear uniforms while attending classes.

The school was originally founded in 1968. It has grown over the years, and today it is considered one of the legacy Catholic high schools in Peel Region. The school offers a wide assortment of academic courses for students, many of whom are new to Canada.

SMSS participates in the Dual Credits program. Students are able to get college level credits for courses taken during grades 11 and 12.

St. Martin has a special focus on athletics, and offers two Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) programs, one in Sports, and one in Hospitality and Tourism.

St. Martin is also a designated school in the Regional Sports Program, which offers a special focus on athletics, leadership, and healthy lifestyles.

Core French is offered at SMSS, with Extended French available at nearby Philip Pocock Secondary School.

St. Martin CSS also offers English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction.

Finally, St. Martin participates in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), which provides advanced on-the-job training for skilled trades.

School and Nearby Amenities

The school is located in a suburban area of Erindale, Mississauga. There are some retail and dining options available along Dundas St. W. nearby. St. Martin has outdoor track and field areas, and a large gymnasium. It is next door to the Huron Park Recreation Centre, which provides extensive recreational facilities, including an indoor hockey rink.

St. Martin CSS has a large catchment area with approximately Burnhamthorpe Rd. on its northern boundary, the Credit River and the QEW Highway to the south, the Credit River in the west, and a somewhat irregular line following Hurontario St. and Mavis Rd. on its eastern edge.
