Specialized Courses

PCSS offers a wide assortment of academic courses for students.

Regional Learning Choices Program (RLCP)

Regional Learning Choices Programs (RLCP) empower students by providing an opportunity to develop and explore skills in their particular area of interest. RLCP programs begin in Grade 9.

Port Credit SS offers two enrichment programs through the RLCP:

  • SciTech, the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program , which is renowned for its robotics studies, provides hands-on learning with post secondary programs and industry partners. Students gain experience as they use advanced technology, interact with guest speakers, and participate in special excursions, competitions and clubs.
  • The Peel Regional Strings program  provides students with the opportunity to study a stringed instrument. Students are able to collaborate with other musicians, within an orchestral environment. Port Credit SS is one of only two high schools in Peel Region to offer this program (the other being Central Peel Secondary School in Brampton).

Dual Credit

Dual Credit programs provide grade 11 and 12 students with an opportunity to earn both college and non-compulsory secondary credits at the same time. College credits earned may be applied to a college program after high school. Students are able to choose from more than 50 courses at colleges such as: Centennial, George Brown, Humber, Seneca and Sheridan.

SHSM

Port Credit Secondary School also offers two Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs, one for Justice Community Safety & Emergency Services, and one for Manufacturing. The SHSM program is for students in grades 11 and 12.

OYAP

The school is also a participant in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) for skilled trades.

OYAP is a school to work program that offers students the ability to work in apprenticeship occupations starting in grades 11 or 12 through the Cooperative Education program. There are many benefits to becoming an OYAP student:

  • earn credits toward your secondary school diploma
  • accumulate hours and work toward trade competencies at a job placement
  • receive trade-specific health and safety training
  • move into work directly after graduation and continue the apprenticeship
