Turner Fenton is unique in that it is actually a merger of two high schools.
J.A. Turner Secondary School was founded in 1974. It was named after J. A. Turner, who was director of what was then called the Peel County Board of Education.
W. J. Fenton Secondary School was founded in 1972. It was named after William James Fenton, a pioneer educator in the region who taught at various schools in the Brampton area in the late 1800’s.
The two schools were located next to each other, and each operated independently until 1992.
The amalgamation into Turner Fenton Secondary School (TFSS) occurred in 1992. Post merger, Turner Fenton became a single school under one administration, with two campus buildings, the North Hall, and the South Hall.
Today, the school is rated as an excellent public high school, and it offers a wide assortment of courses for students.

International Baccalaureate (IB)
Turner Fenton is a fully accredited member of the International Baccalaureate (IB) network of world schools.
It offers the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for grade 9 and 10 students (MYP Year 4 and 5) and the IB Diploma Programme (DP) for grade 11 and 12 students.
Dual Credit Program
Dual Credit programs provide grade 11 and 12 students with an opportunity to earn both college and non-compulsory secondary credits at the same time. College credits earned may be applied to a college program after high school.
Students can choose from more than 50 courses at colleges such as Centennial, George Brown, Humber, Seneca and Sheridan.
SHSM
Once students reach Grade 11, they can also participate in two Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs: one for Hospitality and Tourism and one for Transportation.
French Language
Although there is no French Immersion offered at this facility, students can find French language instruction in Core French and Extended French.
ESL
Turner Fenton provides extensive English as a Second Language (ESL) programs led by teachers with substantial experience working with students in ESL.
OYAP
The school is also a participant in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) for skilled trades.
